The art of puppetry

Rural drama  has a special place in this Sri Lankan society . Puppet art is an art that stands out among those folk art heritages. The history of puppetry goes back to Anuradhapura .

Ambalangoda , Galle , Mirissa  and Balapitiya in the southern provinces of Sri Lanka were famous for puppetry .

There are several puppet media around the world .🌍 

They are classified as string puppets,stick puppets ,shadow puppets ,hand puppets ,water puppets and finger puppets ..

For cutting the puppet , plants such as palm trees , vel kaduru  etc. were selected.🌳

The music used for the puppets is inspired by Naadagam music 🎶.Serpina and maddalaya were used to provid music for this .

Accordingly , It is clear that puppetry has been influenced by South Indian characteristics ..

Puppetry is a form of theater that can be enjoyed by people of all walks of life.It is the responsibility of each and every one of us to preserve puppetry , which is a fading traditional art. 😊❤️
